Israel was reprelled east of the Arabah valley to the border of Edom. Mt. Seir is due south of Kadesh on the east side of the Arabah valley. Hormah is north of Kadesh, just west of the Arabah valley. "The Amorites who lived in that hill country came out against you and chased you as bees do, and crushed you from Seir to Hormah." Deut 1:44 "they (12 spies) proceeded to come to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; and they brought back word to them and to all the congregation and showed them ... ...

124: Amalek and the Amalekites
Saul defeated the Amalekites whose "city" where they lived, was in a region "from Havilah as you go to Shur" which is entirely "transjordan" between Midian and Babylon: 1 Samuel 15:7 The border between Israel and Egypt at the time of David was the Wadi el-Arish. Egypt controlled the entire modern Sinai Peninsula. We know that 1 Sam 15:6-7 and 1 Sam 27:8 say that the Amalekites lived as far as Egypt and east of the Arabah Valley. This proves Egypt's border was the Wadi el-Arish. The Amalekites lived near Kadesh Barnea at the time of Abraham: Genesis 14:7 The Amalekites were living in Mt. Seir (Edom) at the time of the conquest: 1 Chronicles 4:42-43 One stop before they reached Sinai, Amalek came to fight Moses at Rephidim: Ex 17:8 At Kadesh Barnea (near or at Petra), when the spies brought back a bad report, Israel was warned not to enter the promised land or else the Amalekites and the Canaanites would defeat Israel. At this point, the Amalekites are living in the Negev which would ... ...

Schmidt misrepresents Robinson in saying he thought Ein El-Weibeh was Kadesh, when in fact Stanley had had merely considered Ein El-Weibeh as a candidate, but in the conclusion chose Petra instead as Kadesh. "Edward Robinson, (Biblical Researches, 2 ed, 1856, ii. 175, 194) on his visit to 'Ain el Webeh, June 2,1888, was so strongly impressed with this most important watering place in the Arabah that he identified it with Kadesh Barnes. His description of it was quite accurate. On the assumption that "Mount Seir" and "the land of Edom" had the 'Arabah for its western border, and that all Biblical statements are equally reliable and must at any price be harmonized, he could scarcely reach a different conclusion." (Kadesh Barnea, Nathan Schmidt, Journal of Biblical Literature, Vol 29, no 1, 1910 AD, p68) In 1871, Jamieson, Fausset, Brown said: "they came . . . to Kadesh--an important encampment of the Israelites. ... It is the latter which has been classified as 'Egyptian faience-like' ware (Rothenberg 1972 and 1988) and 'Midianite' by others (Parr et al. 1970). The chronology of these wares at Timna possibly covers the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age I periods (1318-1156 BC), based on datable Egyptian cartouches, scarabs and other finds. Finally, we were interested in a handmade, sandy and coarse ceramic which the inhabitants of the Negev have manufactured for over three millennia without interruption, that is `Negbite' ware. It comprises primarily cooking pots, kraters and bowls. The purpose of this study is to establish the origin of the three abovementioned different pottery styles in order to shed some light on important inter-regional contacts between, on the one hand, the Negev and Timna and, on the other hand, Egypt, Midian and Edom. These different pottery repertories are listed in Table 1 according to chronological period and style and with the names used in the present study. SAMPLING ... ...

132: The historical territory of the Moabites in the Bible
... I went down [...] and Kemoš restored it in my days. And [...] from there [...] And I [...]" E. Summary of the domino effect: Rueben, Amorites, Moabites, Edomites In a kind of domino effect one nation displaced another when Israel entered the promised land under Joshua. Rueben displaced the Amorites from their stronghold and they moved south of the Arnon river and co-existed beside the Moabites. The Edomites were in turn, probably forced south into their historic stronghold area at Mt. Seir, just north east of the Red Sea. Edom remained transjordan from the time of the Exodus. It was not until the Babylonian captivity did Edom first move into the land of Judah. When Israel first arrived at Kadesh (Petra) it was on the border of the Edomites. When Israel first crossed the Jordan with Joshua, the Amorites controlled both Hebron, Jerusalem and Engedi. They were defeated and driven transjordan between the time of Joshua to David. ... To us the northern end was partly lost in haze; but we saw all the main points on which his eye must have rested. He looked over the valley of the 'Arabah, countersected by its hundred watercourses, and beyond, over the white mountains of the wilderness they had so long traversed; and at the northern edge of it, there must have been visible the heights through which the Israelites had vainly attempted to force their way into the Promised Land. This was the western view. Close around him oil the east were the rugged mountains of Edom, and far along the horizon the wide downs of Mount Seir, through which the passage had been denied by the wild tribes of Esau who hunted over their long slopes. A dreary moment, and a dreary scene, such at any rate it must have seemed to the aged priest. The peculiarity of the view was the combination of wide extension with the scarcity of marked features and points on which to observe. Petra itself is entirely shut out by the intervening rocks. Which is how almost all commentators have stubbornly misunderstood it (myself included). In 701, Shebitku ruled Egypt, and Taharqa was his Nubian lieutenant, precisely as Shebitku himself had been for Shabako. Back in 2001, after being stunned for a second time about the myth of a biochemical etiology for insanity, I went looking in God's all-sufficient guide for discussion and guidance on how to identify and treat insanity. For several years, I was again trapped in the dilemma of believing the Bible gave advice in all things pertaining to life and godliness, but it was essentially silent on all matters of insanity. Why would the Bible not openly discuss how Christians are supposed to deal with insanity, given the fact that insanity dates back to 1550 BC when its etiology and treatments were openly discussed the Egyptian Medical Ebers Papyrus? I noticed that since the time of Shakespeare, hundreds of books were written on what caused insanity and how to treat it. It bothered me that no such discussion existed in the Bible which was supposed to be God's "all-sufficient" book. Then one day it struck me. Sin doesn't cause "insanity". Sin is insanity. We meet this distinguished individual in 2 Kings 25:22, where we are told: "And as for the people that remained in the land of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had left, even over them he made Gedaliah...ruler." (Elder, John. Prophets, Idols, and Diggers. New York: Bobbs-Merrill, 1960 108, 109), (Evidence for Christianity, Josh McDowell, p164, 2006 AD) "Another important seal impression was found at Lachish in 1935 by the Welcome Archaeological Expedition of England. The inscription on it reads, "Belonging to Gedaliah, the one who is over the house," and the reverse side shows the marks of a papyrus roll to which it had been stuck. In other words it was Gedaliah's personal seal to a letter or official document which he had just written. Since the impression is dated by its archaeological context to the very end of the Divided monarchy, we are safe in assuming that Gedaliah is the same person who was the friend of Jeremiah (Jer. 39:14 and 40:1ff.) and whom Nebuchadnezzar made ... ...

146: Death of the Anti-Black Doctrine, Salt Lake City Messenger, December ...
... Apostle Mark E. Petersen said that "If there is one drop of Negro blood in my children, as I have read to you, they receive the curse." (Race Problems--As They Affect The Church, page 7) The Church was never able to refute the serious accusation about Abel's descendants holding the priesthood, and this undoubtedly destroyed many Mormon's faith in the doctrine concerning blacks. For more information an this matter see Mormonism--Shadow or Reality? pages 267-272. In 1967 the original papyrus from which Joseph Smith "translated" the Book of Abraham was rediscovered. Immediately after the papyrus came to light we began publishing material which showed that Joseph Smith was completely mistaken in his purported translation. The papyrus was in reality a copy of the Egyptian Book of Breathings, a pagan text that had absolutely nothing to do with Abraham or his religion. Since the Book of Abraham was the real source of the Church's teaching that blacks could not hold the priesthood, we called ... ...

147: The Exodus Route: Baal Zephon
Eissfeldt has shown that Baal-Zephon and the Graeco-Roman Zeus Casios are the same, and the Graeco-Roman deity came to be identified with the Canaanite one." (LBD, Baal-Zephon) b. "At least 3 sanctuaries of Baal-zephon in N Egypt are known: Memphis, Tahpanhes (Tell Defneh), and Mt. Casius at Ras Qasrun. Possibly one of the temples at Tell el-Dabʿa, located 2 km south of Qantir, was dedicated to Baal (Bietak 1981:253). A migdol that is probably called "of Baal-zephon" is mentioned in the Cairo papyrus 31169. Its location seems to have been near Wadi Tumilat (Davies 1979:81). There were probably additional Baal-zephon sites in N Egypt, since the Canaanite religion was popular there at various times" (ABC, Baal-zephon, Vol 1, p554) c. "The god Baal-zephon is mentioned in Ugaritic, Egyptian, and Phoenician writings as a sea and storm god." (Tyndale Bible dictionary) 3. In 169 BC, Agatharchides describes Tiran Island: a. "Adjacent to the coast just mentioned is a region people have named ... ...

149: Bible Clay Bulla and seals from Israel and Judah
The finds are typical of the final stage of the Iron Age and the bullae found in this context clearly date to the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem in 587-6 BCE. The bullae, made of fingernail-sized lumps of soft clay shaped as flat disks, were affixed to a string binding a papyrus document and then stamped with a seal. To open and read the document, the bulla sealing had to be broken in order to separate it from the string. The conflagration that destroyed the house and burnt the documents stored in it also fired the clay of the bullae, thus preserving them in very good condition - fully legible. They bear dozens of Hebrew personal names, two of them belonging to personages known from the Bible. One is Gemaryahu son of Shafan, a high official at the court of King Jehoiakim of Judah who reigned on the eve of the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians" (Jewish Virtual Library) Elishama son of the scribe, Jer 36:12,20-21; 41:1 605BC Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of ... ...

150: Midianite Pottery: The designer import of the ancient world.
... Cluster analysis made it clear that the two sherds from Timna statistically match a mixed Timna-Qurayyah group of pottery believed to have been locally made in north-west Arabia, perhaps at Qurayyah. Qurayyah is a likely candidate because this ceramic does not analyse as Negev or Edom wares and Qurayyah is archaeologically the major site in a region which served as a corridor between Arabia and the Negev. However, additional production centres are not excluded, even at sites close to Timna. ... Columns 8 and 9 show the chemical composition of this 'Midianite' pottery. Statistical comparison shows that these compositions are quite similar." (Edomite, Negev, Midianite Pottery: Neutron Activation Analysis, Gunneweg, 1991 AD) "Early Iron Age I Timna, with its highly centralized metal-mining activities, was certainly dependent on foreign trade because no major settlements have been found near Timna which could have imported Timna's entire copper output. Although Egyptian cartouches and ... ...
