On the assumption that "Mount Seir" and "the land of Edom" had the 'Arabah for its western border, and that all Biblical statements are equally reliable and must at any price be harmonized, he could scarcely reach a different conclusion." (Kadesh Barnea, Nathan Schmidt, Journal of Biblical Literature, Vol 29, no 1, 1910 AD, p68) F. W. Holland, a very careful observer, went to 'Ain Kades on the 14th of May, 1878. 106: Mt. Hor, Moserah: Aaron's Mountain (Jebel Haroun) at Petra
He suggests that Edom was not limited to the transjordan, but right beside Kades in the land of Judah: " "This identification, with its linkings, necessitates the re-shaping of much of the geography of the southern border of Palestine and the neighboring regions, as indicated in the maps, cyclopedias, commentaries, and guide-books, now in common use. For example, as the westernmost limit of Edom is not indicated in the Bible except by its relation to Kadesh-barnea, that limit now passes from an unknown to a known quantity, by the fixing of a site which is described as just beyond it. So, also, the traditional Mount Hor must be recognized as an impossible Mount Hor; and the central and northern Arabah must no longer be counted a main camping-ground of the Israelites in their wanderings." (Kadesh-Barnea, Henry Clay Trumbull, 1884 AD, p 320) In 1884 AD, Henry Trumbull chose Jebel Madurah as Mt. Hor: "Yet, all this while, there is a mountain which fully meets the requirements of the Bible ... ...

Archaeologists have not found any pottery or objects directly connected with the Hebrews during the Late Bronze Age of the Exodus at either Kadesh Barnea at Petra or Mt. Sinai at Mt. Lawz, or any other proposed site. The obvious explanation is that it is difficult to find pottery sherds from a widely dispersed tribal population occupying 25 square kilometers of land. 108: Amalek and the Amalekites
... The Amalekites allied with the Midianites to fight Israel even after they entered the promised land: Judges 6:3 After the time of David, the Amalekites withdraw from the Negev into Edomite territory at Mt. Seir: "From them, from the sons of Simeon, five hundred men went to Mount Seir, with Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah and Uzziel, ... They correctly insist the Amalekites lived near Kadesh Barnea, but then wrongly place Kadesh Barnea within the promised land at Ein el-qudeirat, instead of near Petra, near Mt. Seir in the land of Edom where we know they did live. But their comedy turns to horrors when they learn that the Amalekites were located "from ancient times" between Midian and Babylon, they revise their argument and say that they also dwelt in the Negev of Judah. When they clearly inhabited a territory from Babylon to Midian, some did spill over into the Negev, but the majority of their domain was north central Arabia.
