Man has no responsibility to hear and obey the gospel (irresistible grace) Calvinists teach that man being depraved, cannot comprehend the gospel message. Thus two currents of thought and belief began to stand out. One read the Biblical witness to God as affirming that Father, Son and Holy Spirit are three who are equally God and somehow one God. The other read the Biblical witness differently and concluded that Christ, although divine to some extent, was not equal to the Father in divinity but somehow an 'inferior god.' This set the stage for Arius, one of the pivotal figures in the development of trinitarian dogma. The idea of a 'diminished god' he found repugnant. ... The Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit occurs only in the baptismal formula in Matt. 28:19. The later addition, I Jn. 5:8 (in Lat. texts from the 6th cent.), contains the triad, the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit (cf. E. Stauffer, TDNT III 108 f.). An extension of the triadic form in which, however, the important element is "the one God," "the one Lord" and "the one Spirit," appears in Eph. 4:4 ff. Gal. 4:4 ff. does not, strictly speaking, present a formula. It sets out the action of God in salvation history, placing God, Christ and the Holy Spirit in their right relationship: God first sends the Son and then the Spirit of his Son to continue the work of Jesus on earth. On the other hand, God and Christ especially are closely connected in two-part formulae: "one God, the Father ... and one Lord, Jesus Christ" (I Cor. 8:6). "one God ... and one mediator between God and men" (I Tim. 2:5). In this connection Matt. 23:8-10 must also be mentioned, where Jesus draws the disciples' ... ...

Deceptive Quote: Trinitarian The Watchtower takes little bits of McKenzie's comments on Jn 1:1 (a god) and leaves the false impression in the mind of the reader that McKenzie agreed with the JW's mistranslation. Nomina sacra developed into the Christian era and became almost ridiculous because they would create substitutional abbreviations for other "sacred" things including: God, Father, Son, Holy Spirit, Saviour, Cross, Christ etc. While Christians eventually abandoned the practice of nomina sacra altogether, the Jews continue the practice by writing the word God in English as G-D where a dash is substituted for the letter O.
