Prayer to God is only reserved for those who are obedient children of God. Master index of 23 studies: "Determine if you worship in Spirit and Truth!" Lesson 21 We Must Worship The Lord In His Church The Lord is to be glorified by the worship He receives in His church. In Ephesians 3:21 we read, "To Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus." But how many churches does the Lord have? Jesus says in Matthew 16:18, "Upon this rock I will build My church." The word "My" shows possession and that the church belongs to Jesus. How many churches did He say He was going to build? He said, "I will build My church". The word church is singular not plural. The Lord only promised to build His one church. In Ephesians 4:4-6 there are seven ones listed: "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is above all, and through all, and in you all." Arianism, a Christian heresy first proposed early in the 4th century by the Alexandrian presbyter Arius. It affirmed that Christ is not truly divine but a created being. We now move to the East, where the debate became a great controversy. It lasted sixty years, involved the entire eastern church, the western church in part, and occupied the attention of eleven emperors. 474: Sola Scriptura: The local church is the largest unit of organization ...
While this may apply to Reform Protestants etc, this certainly does not apply to us. The Bible's teaching on church authority is something so foreign to Roman Catholics and Orthodox, they may have to literally sit down and think about it for a moment to even begin to grasp it. Not because it is new or difficult, but because it is so simple. In the Bible, the church had no organization larger than the local church which consisted of a plurality of elders, (who were also called bishops and pastors) ruling over the local church. The congregation is to chose their own elders based upon a list of qualifications in 1 Tim 3 and Tit 1. In addition to these elders a congregation may (or may not) have one or more paid pulpit preachers who are called "ministers, evangelists, preachers". These men have no oversight in the congregation but because of their role as preachers of the gospel from the Lord's day pulpit, they do have significant influence. To show the folly of this literal interpretation of poetic language, if Jesus is Wisdom, then who is Prudence? "I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And I find knowledge and discretion." Prov 8:12 Clark Carlton, and Orthodox defender, highlights that many of the recorded "church fathers" had initially interpreted the wrong view of Prov 8:22. This illustrates how the wrong view of Proverbs 8:22f was adopted and later used against those who invented it to prove Jesus was a creature. Clark Carlton explains how Justin's wrong view was used against the church: "Arius was a presbyter of the Church of Alexandria in the early fourth century. The controversy began with his interpretation of Proverbs 8:22ff., where Solomon speaks of Wisdom: The Lord created Me at the beginning of His work, the first of His acts of old (RSV). Everyone, both Orthodox and Arian, understood Wisdom to be Christ. The question was, what does this verse mean. Arius' answer was that the Logos is a creature, albeit the ... ...

478: Did the New Testament Church have a world headquarters?
Each of these is independent. There is NO sort of ecclesiastical tie that binds them into a highly centralized organization. They may cooperate with other congregations in the performance of a needed work. But each one still maintains its own autonomy. There is great wisdom in this plan. Such means that if one departs, its nearest neighbor need not deviate from truth. If one becomes lukewarm as Laodicea did in Revelation 3. Click to View True Bible organization today Click to View Find a local congregation of the New Testament church in your own home town. World-Wide Organization of the Church Introduction: Types of government: Before 150 AD, the office of a Bishop was the same as the office of an Elder (Presbytery). Local churches consisted of a Presbytery (a group of Bishops/Elders), deacons and saints (common members). Bishops were elders, and they are two terms that describe a single office, just like you see in the Bible. This is proven by the record of history from 1 Clement, ... ...

479: God never named the church
For example, Christians are individually described as "sheep", "disciple", "stone", "member", "soldier," etc. So, although God describes His people individually as "sheep, disciple, stone," these are not names. Yet the Bible tells us the word "Christian" is a name. The church is described in many ways with "metaphors". Each metaphor gives us a different view point of the church. These are descriptors. Care needs to be taken to differentiate the local church from the universal church. The local church can be either a single congregation or a collection of local churches in an area. The local church excludes other living Christians and all those who are dead. The Universal church is every Christian, both living and dead. For example, Rom. 16:16 is discussing a collection of one set of local churches greeting the church at Rome. The universal church is not mentioned here. The term "Christians" is not a metaphor for the "collective." But rather is a unit of the collective, like "soldiers" ... ...

483: Lesson 22: The Lord's Church
Master index of 25 studies: "Determine your salvation" Lesson 22 The Lord's Church (Part A) There is one other thing that concerns our salvation that I would like for us to look at in the Bible. In response to Peter's confession to Jesus in Matthew 16:16 that, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God". Jesus then says in Matthew 16:18, "On this rock I will build My church." To whom was this church to belong? "My" is possessive, which shows the church belongs to Jesus. How many churches did Jesus say He was going to build? He said He was going to build "My church", which is singular not plural. The Lord only promised to build His one church. In Ephesians 4:4-6 there are seven ones listed: "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is above all, and through all, and in you all." Just as there is only one God and only one Lord we also see there is only one body. The Bible ... ...

Master index of 25 studies: "Determine your salvation" Lesson 23 The Lord's Church (Part B) The one church that Christ purchased with His own blood belongs to Him and the name it wears must honor Him. We read in Romans 16:16, "The churches of Christ greet you." This name glorifies and honors Christ, the one who built it. Other names honor and glorify John the Baptist, Martin Luther, the day of Penticost, the apostles, Rome, Antioch, Nazareth, the Greeks, the Russians, the methodical way of doing things, Christians, the free will, being primitive, southern, missionary, general, the seventh day, science, catholic, the advent, and the list goes on and on. Even by their names they do not claim to be Christ's one church. Why can't we give the glory and honor to God and Christ where the honor belongs? Today we hear the sincere but mistaken plea to "attend the church of your choice." Why not attend the church of God's choice, the church of Christ, the only one that Jesus "purchased with His ... ...

Spiritual worship or Social club: church kitchens, pot lucks Cookstove Apostasy The early church prayed in the upper room, the twentieth century church cooks in the supper room. Today, the supper room has taken place of the upper room, play has taken the place of prayer, and feasting the place of fasting. There are more full stomachs than there are bended knees and broken hearts. There is more fire in the range in the kitchen than there is in the pulpit. When you build a fire in the church kitchen, it often puts out the fire in the pulpit. Ice cream chills the fervor of spiritual life. The early Christians were not cooking in the supper room the day the Holy Spirit came, they were praying in the upper room; they were not waiting on tables, they were waiting on God; they were not waiting for the fire from the stove, but for the fire from above. They were detained by the command of God and not entertained by the cunning of men. They were filled with the Holy Ghost, not stuffed with stew ... ...

... The Son is subordinate, that is, secondary to, dependent upon, and caused by the Father. The Apologists were subordinationists." (A Short History of the Early Church, Harry R. Boer, p108-110) "Arianism: Up to this point the Trinitarian debate had taken place entirely in the West. We now move to the East, where the debate became a great controversy. It lasted sixty years, involved the entire eastern church, the western church in part, and occupied the attention of eleven emperors. The long discussion began with Arius, a presbyter in the church in Alexandria. He was a disciple of Lucian, who in turn was a student of Paul of Samosata, bishop of Antioch from 260 to 272. Paul was an Adoptionist (Dynamic Monarchian). He taught that the Logos or Reason of God dwelt in the man Jesus. This Logos had also been in Moses and in the prophets; in Jesus, however, it was present in much larger measure. 491: Ellen G. White found guilty of plagiarism (copying)
One of the most pleasing features of this book is the plain and simple language with which the author clothes thoughts that glow with truth and beauty. 1 A lot of trouble and embarrassment would have been avoided in years to come if a few others than the "Spirit of God" had gotten some credit. Although the Scriptures do make it plain that every good and perfect gift comes from God, some of Ellen's gifts of writing were found to have come through quite a few human sources. In the late 1970s Robert W. Olson, for the White Estate (which is always pushed to keep its readers and the church members up to date on such things), issued a rather late concession that Ellen had indeed been peeking at the work of other authors when she wrote The Desire of Ages: Ellen White's indebtedness to other authors has long been acknowledged by Seventh-day Adventists.... The exact extent of Ellen White's borrowings in The Great Controversy is not known.... Studies by Raymond Cottrell and Walter Specht have ... ...

499: Move-in's, Drop-in's, Born-in's & Drag-in's
Isn't one of our primary purposes as Christian's to get ourselves to heaven and take as many with us as we go? Stop and take a look at the church where you worship and determine the number of new members added over the last year or two. Now, subtract the "move-ins", the "drop-ins", and the "born-ins". Consider the following appeal: "Just accept Christ into your heart through prayer and he'll receive you. It doesn't matter what church you belong to or if you ever do good works. You'll be born again at the moment you receive Christ. He's at the door knocking. You don't even have to change bad habits, just trust Christ as Savior. God loves you and forgives you unconditionally. Anyone out there can be saved if they ... Accept Christ, now! Let us pray for Christ to now come into your heart." Sound familiar? This method of conversion has had far-reaching effects worldwide as many have claimed this as ... ...
