355: Why Are There So Many Different Churches?
In Matthew Chapter 16:18, our Lord made a very strange statement when He said, "Upon this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it." Notice in this passage that the term church is singular, not plural. Jesus did not say that He would build his churches, but rather simply that He would build His church. Listen to the passage again. "Upon this rock, I will build My church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against IT." Again in the book of Ephesians, the Apostle Paul wrote, "That the church is the body of Christ, and that there is only one body." Ephesians 1:22,23 & 4:4-6. A simple reading of the New Testament reveals that in bible times, there was only one church, and that all faithful Christians were a part of that one great body of believers (I Corinthians 12:12-13). Although the term churches is occasionally used in the New Testament to refer to a plurality of individual congregations in different locations, such as the seven churches of ... ...

356: Can you understand the Bible unaided by the Holy Spirit?
But this is not the way God intended things to be. Surely if a man can write a newspaper article in such a way so as to be understood, then almighty God is able to write the Bible so that it can be understood. Notice three important things in what apostle Paul said of the many books of the Bible God wrote through him, "by revelation (from God) there was made known to me the mystery (now revealed) , as I wrote before in brief. And by referring to this, when you read you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed to His holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit" Eph 3:3-5. First, Paul's writing is God's message revealed through Paul via the Holy Spirit. Second, the message of salvation Paul wrote about was once a mystery to the Old Testament Jews. Even Angels longed to look" (1 Peter 1:11-12) but it was a mystery to them. To Christians Paul says the mystery is now revealed. It is no ... ...

357: Reasons why the Apocrypha does NOT belong in the Bible!
Roman Catholic and Orthodox Faith Examined and The Apocrypha "The Jewish canon, or the Hebrew Bible, was universally received, while the Apocrypha added to the Greek version of the Septuagint were only in a general way accounted as books suitable for church reading, and thus as a middle class between canonical and strictly apocryphal (pseudonymous) writings. And justly; for those books, while they have great historical value, and fill the gap between the Old Testament and the New, all originated after the cessation of prophecy, and they cannot therefore be regarded as inspired, nor are they ever cited by Christ or the apostles" (Philip Schaff, History of the Christian Church, book 3, chapter 9) 21 reasons why the Apocrypha is not inspired: ... 360: Please explain why we have Old And New Testaments?
The Old Testament was preparatory, temporary, and limited. The New is complete, eternal, and universal. The Old Testament promised a New Testament (Jer. 31:31). The prophet Isaiah spoke of the days to come when the new law would go forth from Jerusalem (Isaiah 2:2-4). In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul stated that the law of Moses had been given until the seed, which is Christ Jesus, had come (study Galatians 3:19-27). The New Testament is the will of Christ, its seal is Jesus' blood (Hebrews ... Since the time of the cross, even now in this Christian age, men live under the law of Christ rather than under the Law of Moses as in the Old Testament times. (John 1:17). Christ fulfilled the Old Covenant (or Law of Moses), nailed it to His cross and ended it there. (Study Luke 24:44 and Col. 2:14). Thus no portion of the Old Testament binds us today; even the 10 commandments have been replaced by better requirements. To illustrate this statement regarding the seventh commandment, ... ...

Hence we infer that empires did not spring up at random, nor by the mistakes of men, but that they were appointed by the will of God, because he wishes that political order should exist among men, and that we should be governed by usages and laws. After Jesus had died for our sins, was resurrected and just before he ascended into heaven, he commanded his apostles in Mark 16:15-16, "And he said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned." Our Lord wanted the gospel preached to everyone. The word "gospel" literally means good news or good tidings. In Romans 1:16 the apostle Paul says, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation for ... The good news of the death of Christ is that Christ has died for us, taking our punishment, and now God can be just in saving us. Without his death we would all be doomed for eternal punishment and no one could be saved. Even though the death of Christ is a terrible thing to have to happen, it is good news to us. 365: What Must I Do To Be Saved ?
The change in a person's life resulting in his becoming a Christian is called in the Bible, conversion, and the Bible teaches that conversion is necessary for a person to be saved. Christ likened this change to a birth and taught Nicodemus, "Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God" (John 3:5). Of the 27 books comprising the New Testament, there is one book which is particularly helpful in understanding the nature of conversion. This book is Acts of the Apostles which tells of the ... There have been speculation that all the following passages are quotes from early Christian hymns, but such is speculative, unsupported by an evidence and inconclusive: Ephesians 5:14, Philippians 2:6-11, Colossians 1:15-20, and 1 Timothy 3:16. Therefore, they form a tripod of evidence which is overwhelming. "In the mouth of two or three witnesses, shall every word be established" II Corinthians 13:1. 377: Can A Christian Sin And Be Lost?
... Said in a different way, the Bible never contradicts itself, and the Bible is its own best interpreter. Remember, God cannot lie, and God is not the author of confusion. Study Hebrews 6:18, and I Corinthians 14:33. To illustrate this, we can study verses about baptism (for instance) in the New Testament books written by the apostles John, Paul, and James, and expect agreement. But, we cannot necessarily expect agreement between the Old Testament writings of Moses and the New Testament writings of Paul concerning ... However, apparent conflict disappears when we see that the writer is stating the obvious fact that Christians cannot sin and remain faithful followers of the Lord. This is verified by the very same writer in the very same letter where the apostle, John, in I John 1:8-10 says, "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. The word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day" John 12:48. Jesus spoke of a day of judgement on the last day. He said that two kinds of words were important: what we say and what he said. We will be judged by his words and by our words. This means that we need to pay attention to what we say and to what he says in the Bible. But how can we be sure that there really will be a day of Judgement? 380: Church Creeds: The fuel of religious division
They responded by defining a Christian as one who believes in the Apostles Creed, the Holy Trinity, in God, the Divinity of Christ, and who subscribes to a confession of faith. Notice this definition denies to those refusing to accept the Apostles Creed and a denominational confession the name Christian. By it neither Peter nor Paul would qualify as a follower of Jesus, since such creeds were unknown in the First Century. In the decades following the death of John, the last living apostle, the early Church faced a difficult problem. False doctrines such as Gnosticism and ... Even more unfortunately, the religious disunity which creeds help to perpetuate often causes seekers of truth to abandon their quest in utter despair. God has revealed his will for us in his Holy Book, the Bible. This is not man's interpretation of God's will, as is true of creeds, but it is God's will itself. 381: Will any religion get me to heaven as long as I am Sincere?
Yet, though misguided, he said, "I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day" Acts 23: 1. He had been sincere, but that sincerity wasn't enough, because you see, sin is not just a matter of violating your conscience; it is a matter of violating the will of God. John was speaking of this in I John, Chapter 3, verse 4, when he said, "Sin is the transgression of the law". In course of time a Christian named Ananias informed Saul, "Why tarriest thou? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord" Acts 22: 16. Yet Saul's story ends happily because when he learned the error of his way, he was sincere enough to turn from his sins to Christ and he went on to become the great Apostle Paul. Let's look at another New Testament example. In Acts Chapter 2, you read that there were dwelling at Jerusalem, Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven (verse 5). 386: What is Bible Grace?
Although man did not deserve it, God formulated a plan whereby man could be saved from his lost condition. Jesus expressed this in these words, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John, Chapter 3, verse 16). Thus, man has access to the grace of God through Jesus Christ. In Romans, Chapter 5, verses 1,2, the Apostle Paul declared, "Therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom also we have access by faith ... his house, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith". Noah was saved by the grace of God, through faith on his part which prompted him to obey God's commands. ... In this connection Matt. 23:8-10 must also be mentioned, where Jesus draws the disciples' attention to the fact that they have one master (himself) and one God in heaven. In all these statements the two facts, that God and Christ belong together and that they are distinct, are equally stressed, with the precedence in every case due to God, the Father, who stands above Christ. (On the formulae see E. Stauffer, New Testament Theology, 1955, 235-57, J. N. D. Kelly, Early Christian Creeds, 19721, 6-29; V. F. Neufeld, The Earliest Christian Confessions, 1963.)
