451: What role does the Holy Spirit in my Conversion?
This idea has descended to our age from the old doctrine that man is totally depraved in heart and soul and must have a miraculous spiritual operation to turn him from sin to his Heavenly Father. But the scriptures plainly teach that the Holy Spirit works through the agency of the revealed Word of God! Still, while proclaiming that the manner of the Spirit's working in the Christian age is through the power of the Word, we must not be guilty of thinking the Spirit is not involved in our conversion. Conversion is the process by which man turns from sin to God. It is the "change" from the old life in sin to the new life in Christ. Conversion takes place in our mind, while forgiveness takes place in the mind of God. In the process of conversion, there are no new faculties or powers imparted that are felt in any physical way. Any theory which takes away the Word of God in conversion, or takes away man's responsibility or accountability, cannot be true. Jesus declared that the Holy Spirit ... ...

Under the Old Testament some of the Jews were not offering their best and were condemned for it. In Malachi 1:8 we read, "And when you offer the blind as a sacrifice, is it not evil? Under the New Testament we do not offer animal sacrifices as the Jews did under the Old Testament; but we give Him our lives in service to Him as a living sacrifice. 464: Biblical Subordination of God the Son, to God the Father
Jn 1:1 says, "and the word was [uncreated] God". However, sometime around the incarnation, Jesus made a choice to submit to the Father as His head. We call this choice, the subordination (or down-ranking) of Christ to the Father. Jesus did not give up being God, He merely began to obey the Father as though He were a creature. This is called "Biblical subordination". Bible evidence seems to support the view that the Holy Spirit submits to both the Father and the Son, but it is not a strong case. Are you really ready to live in heaven? Now, let's take a close look at what heaven will be like: Heaven will be a place of fellowship. "I go to prepare a place for you. human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. (2 Pet 1:20-21) There are several Old Testament passages that seem to directly underpin Eph 5:14 like, "Arise, shine; for your light has come, And the glory of the Lord [Christ] has risen upon you." Isaiah 60:1. The earliest Christian literature, well before Constantine, is unanimous that the main day of the week for early Christians to gather and worship was not the seventh-day Sabbath, but Sunday, which they sometimes called "the first day" or "the eighth day" or "the Lord's Day". We have inklings of this already in apostolic times: (1) in Acts 20.7 Christians at Troas celebrated Holy Communion and listened to a sermon "upon the first day of the week", and (2) in 1 Corinthians 16.2 we are exhorted: "Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, ... Wherefore, also, we keep the eighth day with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead. And when He had manifested Himself, He ascended into the heavens. Abundant evidence of ... The best translation is that Christians celebrate the resurrection of the Lord every Sunday, not only once a year or on Saturday. Thus it is plain that the chief day of the Christian week, even before ... ...

Isaiah says Jehovah is "the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy" Isa. 57: 15. His holiness is so overpowering that nothing is comparable to him. "To whom then will you liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One" Isa. 40: 25. So magnificent is God's holiness that when Isaiah saw him in a vision, he immediately confessed his human imperfections, his complete lack of sanctification or holiness. 481: Lesson 1: The Purpose Of Our Worship Of God
Our worship must show our adoration and loyalty to God for His grace in providing us with the way to escape the bondage of sin, so we can have the salvation He so much wants to give us. The nature of the worship God demands is the prostration of our souls before Him in humble and contrite submission. James 4:6, 10 tells us, "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up". Our worship to God is a very humble and reverent action. Jesus says in John 4:23-24, "But the hour is coming, and now is, when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is a spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth." It doesn't say we can worship God anyway we want, but we "must worship Him in spirit and in truth". 485: Does your salvation experience match the Bible pattern?
The Lord saw fit to record for us in His Holy Word at least eight specific examples of conversion in the book of Acts. It is worth noting that in each example of conversion, there is preaching or teaching of the Gospel followed by a certain response to that preaching or teaching by the person converted. The first recorded example is found in Acts, Chapter 2. When Peter and the other apostles filled with the Holy Spirit, spoke to the great multitude on the day of Pentecost and told them that God had raised His Son, whom they had crucified, to be the Saviour of all who call upon His name (verse 21). Believing the apostle's message and being convicted of the enormous sin of rejecting and consenting to the crucifixion of God's Son, they asked "Men and brethren, what shall we do? 486: How to Pray Acceptably
no, or wait, but the Lord wants our prayers to be continual (I Thessalonians 5:17) and in a spirit of repentance (Luke 15:18-21). Obedience- is a necessary ingredient. God answers prayers of those who know, obey, and keep his commands. "If you ask, keep my commandments" (John 14:14,15; I John 3:22). Christ, himself, is an example of this (John 8:29). Without faith we cannot acceptably approach God in prayer (Mark 11:22-24; Hebrews 11:6; James 1:6). An unforgiving spirit can erase the power of prayer (Matthew 6:14,15). Though not commanded as essential, fasting is often associated with prayer (Psalms 35: 13; Daniel 9:3; Matthew 9:15; Acts 10:30; 13:3; 14:23; I Corinthians 7:5). Jesus told us to be ... "Summing up the historical evidence, Alvan Lamson says in The Church of the First Three Centuries: "The modern popular doctrine of the Trinity . . . derives no support from the language of Justin [Martyr]: and this observation may be extended to all the ante-Nicene Fathers; that is, to all Christian writers for three centuries after the birth of Christ. The developed 12th century "Athanasius creed" version of trinity doctrine is not found in scripture, but that is not the issue. 493: Development of Trinity Doctrine from the Old to the New Testament
... From Moses to Christ, God's name was YHWH (Yahweh or Jehovah). For Christians the name of God is JESUS! "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12) Certainly the Jews never foresaw the time when YHWH would no longer be used as the name for God and it would be replace with Jesus! But actually, in God's providence, the Jews were actually part of the change. The Septuagint was a translation in 250 BC from the Hebrew Old Testament by 70 scholars into Greek. They translated YHWH as LORD (Kurios). It was no mistake that the Holy Spirit Himself continued in this tradition in the New Testament. God ordained that YHWH would never once be found in the original Greek manuscripts of the New Testament. Of course the New World Translation (sectarian paraphrase used only by JW's) adds YHWH into the English New Testament where never found in the underlying Greek. this claim not only of Mesmer, but of hypnotism: "not at all on the volition, or passes of the operator, throwing out a magnetic fluid, or exciting into activity some mystical universal fluid or medium". In other words, there is no power being transmitted by the hypnotist to the person being hypnotized. Instead, Braid understood, we know today, that people hypnotize themselves. The two key concepts required to hypnotize anyone is the belief that the hypnotist can hypnotize, and a submissive, suggestive personality or disposition at the time. Hypnosis is seen to day with charismatics and pentecostals who are "slain in the spirit" by the "powerful man of God". They falsely believe he is transmitting the power of the Holy Spirit and they therefore fall backwards and "do the dead chicken" on the floor for a couple of minutes. It is learned behaviour and the "slain" are obeying the hypnotist's command! Slain in the spirit has occult origin and is seen in many other non-Christian religions. ... ...
