451: Extra-Biblical oral apostolic tradition does not exist today
I believed that the leaders of the church knew what was best, that they had always known what was best, and that when something new was defined and added to the tradition that it was the truth, plainly and simply. Further study has shown me that tradition is not so clear cut and obvious, actually it is rather obscure and the process whereby something becomes defined as a belief and practice of Roman Catholic tradition absolutely defines logic and sound reasoning. What Is Tradition? Trying to define "tradition" as it applies to the Roman Catholic Church is not as easy as it may seem. It is not a matter of merely looking in a book of Catholic belief and finding a definition. I looked in 5 different such books and found 5 different definitions. That should tell us something right at the beginning. The clearest definition I found, as well as one that encompasses the basics from the others, is from the book, The Roman Catholic Church, by John L. McKenzie, S.J. on p. 212. McKenzie states; ... ...

452: Lesson 10: Believe in God and in Christ
If we don't believe in God and in Christ, we will certainly not do what They tell us. If God is to be believed at all, He must be believed fully. Hebrews 11:6 says, "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." We must diligently seek to know all that God wants us to do and then gladly do it. Do you believe in God and Christ with all your heart? Do you believe in Them to the point that you have all the confidence in the world in Them and that you will do anything and everything They tell you to do? Not what we choose to do, but what God tells us to do. If we will not, then we are no different than those people that we read about in John 12:42-43, "Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him (that is on Jesus), but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: for they loved the praise of men more than the ... ...

456: Scripture contains a pattern that must to be followed.
The Apostolic fathers viewed Scripture as containing a complete pattern that must to be followed A conservative, bible believing perspective! God's providence gave us the 27 book New Testament Canon, not the church. God, not men decided the canon. This providence does not mean that church leaders were inspired in their selecting the canon, only that God had his eye on the scriptures the whole time and brought about His will to form the Bible we see today! Go to: "Canon of the Bible" Home Page The Apostolic fathers viewed Scripture as containing a complete pattern that must to be followed. Introduction: The earliest Christians were patternists. 457: The Third Season of Excavation at Tell el-Kheleifeh, 1940 AD ...
... The outer, very steep slope of this glacis was then covered with a thick facing of strong mud-mortar, which effectively hid all the irregularities of the tiny steps of its successively graduated rows of bricks, and presented a surface so smooth as not to afford a toe-hold to any one desirous of ascending it. Although the glacis around the smelter can in no wise be distinguished from a fortification glacis, it was intended not so much to keep out an enemy as to bolster up the walls of the smelter. The strength of this smelter glacis was, furthermore, enhanced by the fact that while its outer face sloped inward as it went upward, the rows of bricks in it sloped downward somewhat toward the face of each of the walls against which the glacis was built. In addition, the builders of this glacis (and others like it in a later period at Tell el-Kheleifeh), employed a principle of tying the bricks to each other that was commonly used, for in stance, in the Renaissance Period in Europe, ... ...

(The Jewish People and Jesus Christ, 1979, Jacob Jocz) What they fail to tell the same article also says: The missionary motive therefore cannot be the extension of Church but the Lordship of Jesus Christ. The profession that Jesus Christ is Lord is the distinctive mark of the Church and is tested in a particular and drastic way when face to face with Judaism: here as nowhere else Church and mission coincide. (The Jewish People and Jesus Christ, 1979, Jacob Jocz, p15) It is a matter of fact that a bridge theology spanned between the two faiths always means a compromise for the Church on the basic issue, namely the Lordship of Jesus Christ. 463: What Is Satan Really Like?
A long time before Satan gained his paperback popularity, he was alive, ambitious, active, and achieving his objectives of deceiving, deluding, and destroying the souls of men. Man's fertile imagination has produced many fanciful theories about Satan, some of which have been popularized through paperback books. However, the Bible has the only reliable information about Satan and what he is really like. Satan is introduced in the book of Genesis. No explanation is given of his origin, but there is an unfolding drama of his work throughout the Bible. He is cast in the role of the adversary of man, an arrogant aspirant to the authority that belongs to God. Satan is a usurper of God's place in the heart of man. See him there, using enticement, deception, and falsehood. His subtle and beguiling ways have earned for him an appropriate name, "devil", or slanderer. There are implications in Scripture that Satan is a spirit being who was formerly an angel. The Bible alludes to fallen angels in ... ...

We believe that Jesus Christ, who is God and man, through his atoning, sacrificial death on the cross for our sins and his resurrection, is the only way of salvation; he alone saves us from sin and judgment and purifies us from the contamination of the world caused by sin. We believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father. We believe that regeneration is by the work of the Holy Spirit, and that it is necessary if one is to enter the kingdom of God. We believe that God sent his Holy Spirit to empower his church to witness to Jesus to the ends of the earth. We believe that we are made righteous by grace alone, through faith alone. We believe that the Holy Spirit works in the heart of every believer to lead him. We believe that the church is the body of Christ and that all Christians are members of it. ... Historical examples of the mass induced psychosomatic behaviours: 1. In 1655 AD, Meric Casaubon had correctly speculated in his "A treatise concerning enthusiasme" (1655 AD) that such events were contagious (learned and imitated), "should be contagious: though not contagious in the same manner, as the Plague, or the Pox is; yet contagious in their kind". 2. In 1701 AD, John Freind noted a case of two related families of what became known, "the barking girls", who "barking and howling like dogs . . . accompanied by violent rhythmic movements of the head and contortions of the face . . . when their breath failed they would one by one fall into a paroxysm like an epileptic fit". 3. These three cases show that "insane behaviour" is often a game and play acting in order to achieve a benefit. But their benefit cost the adults time, money and worry. Refutation of the false Catholic & Orthodox tradition argument: "We only know the identity of John as the writer of the fourth gospel from tradition." A. No need for oral tradition: We marvel at what lengths Roman Catholic and Orthodox oral tradition defenders will go to prove the need for oral tradition. The fact that Matthew, Mark, Luke, Hebrews and most of the Old Testament books do not tell us who actually wrote them is not a proof of the need for oral tradition. It is obviously not important who the authors are, but that they were inspired by the Holy Spirit. Knowing who wrote the fourth gospel or Hebrews is not important to faith. What difference does it make if we did not know for sure who wrote the fourth gospel. No one knows for sure who wrote the book of Hebrews and it makes no difference. Hebrews, for example was universally ascribed to Paul in the east (orthodox church), while the west (Roman Catholic) put forth several other possible writers. This actually proves the ... ...

It is called the first/old covenant/testament. The ten commandments are the foremost visible representation of this first/old covenant was replaced by a new covenant called, among other things "the law of Christ". 100% of the old covenant was abolished. No part of the Old Covenant remains in force. No one prior to Moses (Abraham or Adam) ever heard of the Sabbath law much less kept it. The very first time that anyone was commanded to keep the Sabbath was in Exodus 16. The word "Sabbath" is not even found in the book of Genesis. 470: Have you been Baptized with The Wrong Baptism?
Please observe that Bible baptism involves a burial and a resurrection. Hence, we conclude that baptism is an immersion. This view is in complete accord with the practice of the first preachers in the church. When Philip baptized an Ethiopian, they both went down into the water, Philip baptized the man, and then they both came up out of the water, clearly a case of immersion. You will want to study this case of New Testament baptism which is described in the Book of Acts, Chapter 8, verses 26 through 40. Now, look at question three: Why should one be baptized? It is good to acknowledge the simple answer given by Peter, a messenger of Jesus, when heart stricken sinners cried, "What shall we do?". He answered, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost". To non-smokers this is intolerable, to a few individuals smoke from other's cigarettes can produce dangerous toxic reactions. Smoking is against the principles of being careful not to offend and of being considerate. Smoking is wasteful of time and of money. Christians also need to come face to face with the shocking realities that while more than 90% of all lung cancer victims are smokers, scientific studies have also shown that smokers have more than three time as many heart attacks as do non-smokers. We can simply find no way by which we can justify the willful destruction of our bodies in such a manner. God told them to "turn back" the direction they came and camp in front of the Migdol which was a military watch tower (Ex 14:2, Num 33:7). Scripture says that Israel came to a dead end at Etham, then God told them to turn back and retrace their steps and camp directly beside the "Migdol" in order for pharaoh to say, "Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, "Tell the sons of Israel to turn back and camp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea; you shall camp in front of Baal-zephon, opposite it, by the sea. "For Pharaoh will say of the sons of Israel, 'They are wandering aimlessly in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.' "Thus I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will chase after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord." And they did so." As we have seen, in The Late Great Planet Earth, Hal Lindsey listed this as one of the signs marking the time for Christ's setting up his Kingdom. (Pages 52, 53) Again in The Promise, he states that Jesus "warned that earthquakes would increase in frequency and intensity as this old earth prepared for its final cataclysm." (Page 198) This piece of the prophetic "jigsaw puzzle" is supposed to have come into place in our day. In his book Good-bye Planet Earth (1976), Seventh Day Adventist author Robert H. Pierson has a subheading "A Shaking, Quaking Planet." Under it he states: With increasing frequency and intensity Mother Earth has been shaking and quaking. Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their lives. Multiplied thousands more will perish in greater earth spasms ahead. Never since the days of Noah has the world been so badly battered. Again God is speaking to us - He is seeking to tell us that our time is short. His Son, Jesus Christ, will return soon. Nature's voice speaks ... ...

479: Hypochondriac Melancholy, John Hawkins, 1633 AD
His book was the first on `hypochondriac melancholy', and incidentally the first on a psychiatric subject written by an Englishman in Latin and published abroad. By this 'little work' Hawkins hoped to dispel what was at once 'an erroneous belief . . . and a disgrace to the medical profession' namely that 'this disease is incurable, nay even incomprehensible'. He described its symptoms 'in the case of an illustrious and well-known heroine', actually Queen Elizabeth of Bohemia, daughter of James I. She was 'miserably beset by grief and fear, without manifest cause, and troubled with various anxious and painful thoughts, almost to the point of madness' - the symptoms of melancholy. Her hypochondriac symptoms were `twitching of the stomach [which patients nowadays call butterflies], rumbling in the guts, palpitation of the heart, attacks of trembling and swooning, sleeplessness and loss of weight'. (300 years of Psychiatry, Richard Hunter, 1963, p109) Hypochondriac Melancholy, John ... ...

Scripture recorded the duration of the drought. James got the 3 1/2 year figure directly from the Holy Spirit. Inspiration means that the prophecy did not come by an act of human will. The Watchtower was kind enough to translate their little deceptive quote, but such quotes in an English resource makes it difficult to even check it they quoted it right! Of course "making it difficult to check on them" is exactly why the Watchtower designed the format of the book in the first place. They cannot argue that it would take too much space up to insert the footnotes, because the booklet is already 32 pages long. Anita Vinson in a little booklet entitled, Putting Christ in Your Classroom, writes: "Jesus is familiar with the little temptations and trials of the classroom. As the Son of God, He set forth principles that will help us. He even died for us so that we might be able to be closer to Him and be able to know that we are not alone when we face that History examination. However, there are two conditions that you must meet if Christ is to be on your side. You must put him first in everything you do, and obey His teachings as found in the New Testament." The word "honesty" or some form of it, occurs eleven times in the King James Version of the New Testament. Paul urges the Romans to "provide things honest in the sight of all men" Romans 12:17. He urges Christians to live "in all godliness and honesty", I Timothy 2:2. Jesus says in Luke 13:3, "I tell you, no; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish." It is either repent or perish; the choice is ours. But Satan does not want us to repent. Acts 17:30, "Truly these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent." All people everywhere, and that includes you and me, are commanded of God to repent. Repent of what? Repent of our sins. Repent of not fully serving and following all that God says. God is pleading with us to repent. He greatly desires that we turn to him. He tells us in II Peter 3:9, "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." ... HAVING in the foregoing Chapter shewed the Signs of Melancholy, we shall next proceed to speak of the Causes thereof, which are, I. SINFUL Impatience, Discontents and Cares, proceeding from a Sinful Love of some bodily Interest, and from want of sufficient Submission to the will of God, and Trust in him, and taking Heaven for a satisfying Portion. This is one of the most common Causes. I must necessarily use all these words to shew the true Nature of this complicate Disease of Souls. The Names tell you that it is a Conjunction, of many Sins, which in themselves are of no small malignity; and were they the Predominant Bent and Habit of Heart and Life, they would be the signs of a graceless State: But while they are hated and overcome not Grace, but our Heavenly Portion is more esteemed, and chosen, and sought, than earthly Prosperity, the mercy of God through Christ doth pardon it; and will at last deliver us from all. The writer of the Roman letter, the inspired apostle, stated clearly that being justified by faith and making peace with God will be realized when our faith is great enough to cause us to obey from the heart the form of doctrine delivered. (Romans Chapter 6, verses 17-18) The doctrine delivered is the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. In I Corinthians Chapter 15, verses 1 through 5, "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also you have received, and wherein you stand; By which also you are saved, if you keep in memory what', I preached unto you, unless you have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first ol' all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures". ... Therefore, one must be a believer in order to be a subject of baptism. In Acts Chapter 8, Philip instructed the eunuch who was reading in Isaiah Chapter 53. The eunuch wondered if the prophet was speaking of himself or another. Philip made it abundantly clear as he preached unto him Jesus. They came to a certain water and the eunuch says, "Here is water, what doth hinder me to be baptized?". At verse 37, Philip said, "If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest". And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God". In Chapter 2 of the book of Acts, the Apostle Peter for the first time in the Christian age answers the question of those who wanted to be free from their sins. In verse 38 he says, "Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost".
