451: Lesson 1: The Purpose Of Our Worship Of God
James 4:6, 10 tells us, "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up". Our worship to God is a very humble and reverent action. Jesus says in John 4:23-24, "But the hour is coming, and now is, when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is a spirit ... Our singing, praying, studying His word, giving, and communion are designed by God to bring us closer to Him and to cause us to think more like He thinks, thus becoming more like Him. James 4:8 tells us to, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." Our worship not only honors and magnifies God, but it is also for our own edification and strength. Worship helps us develop a God-like and Christ-like character. We become like unto those we admire and worship. When we worship God we tend to value what God values and gradually take on the characteristics and qualities of God, but ... ...

452: Will any religion get me to heaven as long as I am Sincere?
if he found any of this way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem" Acts 9: 1,2. So here is a man who is religious about persecuting the way of Christ, believing Jesus to be an imposter. Yet, though misguided, he said, "I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day" Acts 23: 1. He had been sincere, but that sincerity wasn't enough, because you see, sin is not just a matter of violating your conscience; it is a matter of violating the will of God. John was speaking of this in I John, Chapter 3, verse 4, when he said, "Sin is the transgression of the law". In course of time a Christian named Ananias informed Saul, "Why tarriest thou? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord" Acts 22: 16. Yet Saul's story ends happily because when he learned the error of his way, he was sincere enough to turn from his sins to Christ and he went on to become the great Apostle Paul. Let's look at another New Testament example. ... ...

454: One verse refution of Transubstantiation
The Catholic and Greek Orthodox false doctrine of "transubstantiation" teaches that the bread and juice undergo a change to become the literal body and blood of Christ. "And when Jesus had taken a cup and ***given thanks*** (Catholic transubstantiation happens here), He gave it to them, saying, "Drink ... If transubstantiation of the juice into blood had occurred, as both Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches say it was at this time, then Jesus would never have referred to it as "fruit of the vine' but rather "blood". This proves that when Jesus said "take eat & drink" he LITERALLY gave them bread and juice. In like manner, Paul also refers to the elements of the Lord's Supper as "eat this ... The Bible pattern for the Lord's Supper is that the bread and juice are not combined, but are two separate steps of "Holy communion". We wonder why Roman Catholics and Orthodox doubt God will grant his full grace and love in the symbolic elements of the bread and the juice? Why is it so hard for them to ... ...

459: Bible Texts Calvinists misuse to prove "Limited Atonement"
Argument: Jesus died only for His sheep (which they take to mean the elect). Answer: In verse 16, Christ taught that there are "other sheep not of this fold" who would come into the fold. Calvinists deny that one can change from "sheep not of the fold" to "sheep of the fold." There are numerous Bible examples of those who made that chance. Many Corinthians had changed- lCorinthians 6:9-11 Paul changed - 1 Timothy 1:13-14 2. Acts 20:28; Ephesians 5:25 Argument: Christ died only for those who are saved - again, the elect. Answer: He died to purchase the church; there is no doubt about that. And the church is composed of the saved. But the Bible truth that Calvinists overlook is that any man or woman can become a part of that church. Hebrews 5:8,9 - all who obey (not only those who are elected to salvation) Acts 2:47 - not all will be saved, but all do have the right to be saved by obedience (vs. 38-41) 3. 461: Living Together Common-law Unmarried
Moreover, other professed Christians condone the practice if "they really care for one another". In the Bible such a relationship outside of marriage is called fornication, or if it involves the married, adultery. Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolater, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor deviant sex practitioners, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God. ... Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. "Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?' "For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:25-34 Conclusion: 1. Christians must find the kind of contentment that Jesus Christ and the Apostle Paul experienced. 2. ... and as they became negligent in their adoration of God they fell varying amounts into different categories, some becoming angels, some human beings, and some demons. Jesus Christ, the Logos, was the exception. He did not fall at all. But still this makes Him subordinate to the Father, being at first on the same level as created beings. For this Jerome, among others, considered Origen to be the precursor to the Arian heresy, which in our day is expressed in the theology of the Unitarians and the Jehovah's Witness cult. Denying hell, Origen reasoned that humans, demons, and even Satan can, and in the end will, be reconciled to God, anticipating the Universalist heresy. He said there is to be "a purging baptism of fire," and thus he anticipated the idea of purgatory, which became a doctrine of the Catholic Church at the First Council of Lyons in 838 A.D.. and affirmed at subsequent councils. ... To speak of the pre-existence of the Son is to say that God did not begin to redeem men when Jesus came into the world, but that throughout all ages the redeeming power and the sacrificial work of God has been at work. To speak of the pre-existence of the Son means that the love which was demonstrated on Calvary is an eternal movement of the heart of God to men (The Mind of Paul, p. 59). I do not think William Barclay was a Christian. In his autobiography he clearly states that he was not a Trinitarian. He did not believe that Jesus is God. He denied the doctrine of the Vicarious Atonement. He also denied the Virgin Birth of Christ, and his view of the Holy Spirit fits no discernible orthodox definition in the history of the Christian Church. (Harold Lindsell) Needless to say, Barclay did not believe in the inerrancy of the Scriptures.
