Another Year
A new year is arriving. As men count time, 2003 years have passed since our most
remarkable visitor came to our world - Jesus Christ - the
Son of the living God. From our human perspective, because we are mortal and
rather short-lived, that seems like a long time to us. I do not think that many,
if any at all, who lived at that time thought it would be this long before Jesus
returned. It was necessary to point out to them that we worship a God that is
not bound by time - time is of absolutely no consequence to our eternal Creator.
The Bible says that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand
years as one day (2 Peter 3:8). The Psalmist had said, "Before the mountains
were born, or Thou didst give birth to
the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God."
(Psalm 90:2). We need to remember this as well.
The best decision we can make for this new year is to live it day by day to the glory of the One who is without beginning or end - our Creator; the Father of our spirits. Should this be the year of our Lord's return, we will then be prepared to welcome Him in joy and confidence. If not, then it will still be a year well spent; blessed and happy. Either way, let the Lord's will be done. Those who love and trust Him know He will bring all things, not just the good but even afflictions and hardships, to their ultimate best conclusion for His people. Warren and I thank God for His providence and that we have been counted worthy to serve Him in various capacities, including using producing Expository Files. We now enter our 10th year of publication and appreciate the kind remarks that have been sent to us from many of our readers. We are very happy that the material that our contributors have volunteered has been found useful by so many. I want to also express my gratitude to Alan, even as Warren has done in his editorial, for the very fine work he has done. Part of the reason Expository Files has been so successful is due to Alan's efforts over the years to provide a very well done and popular web site where EF could be read and downloaded in html format. Of the several sites where EF could be found, perhaps Alan's was the most trafficked. Alan put a tremendous amount of work into this simply because he thought the effort was worth it. Thanks Alan, for your work! As Alan "retires" we wish him well, and while his site remains, it will not be updated. However, Warren's site will have the new issues of EF in html format.
And thanks to all the contributors of the past year. We look
forward to another year, Lord willing, with good articles from good and faithful
disciples of Jesus Christ. And a personal thank you from myself to my co-editor,
Warren Berkley, without whom Expository Files would never have existed. It was
his vision that conceived this work. I am not completely sure as to why he
contacted me first to be his co-editor (maybe I am assuming too much here... I
really do not know if he contacted others before me). In any case, I am very
thankful to have been a part of this effort from the beginning.
