Beginning Our Nineteenth Year of Expository Files
Eighteen complete years of monthly issues of Expository Files has resulted in
expository articles from every book in the Bible, though there are still
portions that are much more lightly covered than others. That will probably
always be the case. My co-editor Warren E. Berkley and I have learned a lot over
the years. We have also had to learn some new things as technology grew. What we
had to work with then now seems like electronic dinosaurs. Now Warren and I are
the dinosaurs working with all these new things. We have to learn the new stuff
so we do not become extinct ourselves. And so there is Kindle, Nook and other
electronic readers that Warren’s wife, Paula, works on. My wife Barbara really
likes her Kindle. I guess I may have to break down and try it out.
Our Expository Files library has become fairly extensive. We wanted a way that
people could do research and to be able to find material reasonably quickly. Our
website at https://www.bible.ca/ef/ accomplishes that. One can search topically,
or by book and chapter. He or she can also perform a word search. Our thanks to
Steve Rudd for his work in providing the server space and technical skills that
made such possible.
Our oldest child was in high school and learning to drive in 1994 as we began
Expository Files. Our youngest was in 5th grade. Our middle child was, well, in
the middle. Our oldest child now married and has three children of her own. She
is working on her Master's degree in speech therapy. Our youngest is married and
has one child and has received her Master's degree in oboe performance, and our
middle child is preaching the gospel in the capital of the Cornhusker state. My
life is much different today than it was then. Things change. I am fine with
that. There is still that one constant that has not changed. Jesus loves me.
May everyone have a happy and prosperous new year, but more than that, may all
who read these words make great spiritual progress. Thanks to Warren for his
friendship. Thanks and much appreciation to all those who have supplied articles
for Expository Files. It is our hope that all of our readers, old and new, will
benefit from our efforts.
