Greetings!
This issue ends our fourth year of publication. Interest in Expository Files has
continued to grow, and for this we are delighted and thankful. Warren has an
announcement of the Final Page concerning our "special series" for 1998. Be
forewarned that our special series is NOT about speculation concerning the end
of the millennium in the year 2000 (or, more correctly, 2001) and/or its
relation to the second coming of Christ. For such speculative theories, you'll
have to go elsewhere.
But, we, the editors and writers, do believe that Jesus is coming again. We are
just not as proficient as many seem to think they are at determining when that
will be. We do know that Jesus said that the angels do not know when His coming
will be. In fact, He said H did not even know, but only the Father. And He said
we do not know either (Matthew 24:35,36; 44; 25:13). Next time you hear someone
link the year 2000 with the second coming, please inform them that they are
doing something that even Jesus did not do. They must be really smart!
So, Jesus warns us to always be ready and watching. This means to be living
faithfully to the Lord. Do not take it for granted that He will delay His coming
to the year 2000. Neither take it for granted that His coming will be delayed
until after our years here are done. Take nothing for granted except this: Jesus
is coming, and we need to always be ready.
"..He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through
a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him
from the dead." (Acts 17:31).
Next issue begins our fifth year of publication. We look forward to bringing you
twelve more monthly issues in 1998. This is, of course, if it be the Lord's
will, including recognition of the fact this world may not have twelve more
months left on its calendar. God bless you and yours in 1998.
