Is There A Spiritual Cliff In Your Near Future?
Check the news every day and you’ll hear about the economic
cliff that could lead to another recession, more un-employment, higher taxes and
deeper debt. Some experts predict we are nearing the edge.
I am not an expert. I don’t know how this will all turn out.
I do know, there are churches, families and individual people headed for a cliff
that doesn’t involve financial matters.
The devil is relentless in his attack against God’s people, and he is always
pushing us toward a spiritual cliff, where we fall into his domain.
His purpose is to lead us into selfishness, greed, pride, arrogance,
ingratitude, recklessness and rebellion. He does this very slowly and through
subtle means
that may not be visible or immediately discernible. Slowly, the devil pushes us
away from God and toward the spiritual cliff.
You don’t have to be led by the devil. You don’t have to move close to the edge.
Your love for God doesn’t have to grow cold and your faith weak.
The cliff is not inevitable, but avoidable.
“Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near
to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners: and purify
your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be
turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the
Lord, and He will lift you up,” (Jas. 4:7-10).
Memorize this part of God’s Word to you, and determine to recall it when you
feel the pressure toward the cliff.
It is not inevitable!
