Promises That Only God's Son Can Keep
Welcome to our first issue of our 18th year! We hope you find some things to be
helpful in your life's journey, and if so, please be sure to express your
appreciation to the One who is responsible for every good gift.
I thought this would be a good place to begin a series of seven articles based
on the seven promises given to the Christians in first century Asia Minor. The
promises are all conditional, based on overcoming various obstacles and
hardships. The early church had entered a period of dreadful persecution and
these brethren needed to be encouraged. It is Jesus who encourages them with
promises that are somewhat cryptic in nature, as is most apocalyptic literature.
But there is a lot to these promises. The first is found in Revelation 2:7: “To
him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the
Paradise of God."
Of course, this promise entails so much more than the mere idea of getting to
eat fruit from a tree. The seven promises encompass the most wonderful gifts
imaginable, and they belong to those who overcome, in the first century and in
the twenty-first century as well.
God bless you throughout the coming year
