Special Series 2015
“Lo, Your Salvation Comes!”
The Messiah in Isaiah
« »
This year’s Expository Files special series takes a look at the Messiah prophesied in the Book of Isaiah. The title “Lo, Your Salvation Comes!” is taken from Isaiah 62:11 which reads:
“ Behold, the LORD has proclaimed to the end of the earth, Say to the daughter of Zion, "Lo, your salvation comes; Behold His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him."
The book of Isaiah consists of proclamations of God as given through the prophet Isaiah over a period of about forty years. Isaiah’s name means “the salvation of Jehovah”. Though he has much to say about salvation on several levels; including the national salvation of the nation of Judah as God protects them from Assyria, as well as the salvation from future Babylonian captivity as a remnant of the nation is restored to the land to rebuild Jerusalem; we ought not to miss the connection between these and the eternal goal of spiritual salvation from sin, as foreordained by God before the world was, and brought about through the Messiah whose birth was yet seven centuries in the future from Isaiah’s perspective.
It is that salvation with which this years’ special series as well as our next book, to be published at the end of 2015, will deal. We are excited to investigate many of the absolutely compelling details of the mission and life of Jesus Christ through the words of Isaiah, the Messianic prophet, as he has become known, and with good reason. Isaiah is by no means the only prophet to speak of Jesus many centuries before His birth. We could literally fill up this page with book, chapter and verse references to Jesus in the prophecies of the Old Testament beginning with Genesis 3:15. But, in such an intriguing way, Isaiah uses the backdrop of the national sins of Israel and Judah, and the darkness of the near future with the coming judgment and destruction of those nations by Assyria and Babylon respectively, to foretell of the Light that is coming to bring salvation, not just for Judah and Israel, but for the whole world.
So, we invite you to be watching for our next book, Lo, Salvation Comes planned for publication at the conclusion of 2015.
