When your child quits attending church: |
A poem...
"Somehow I lost you, Son, along the way---
I do not know just how it came to be;
I only know that you were mine one day,
Then suddenly you slipped away from me.
Did I say 'suddenly'? I do you wrong,
For not in rash decision did you go,
Setting your sail in anger, pushed along
By overwhelming force, or undertow.
"No---it was gradual---your craft was new,
And I left you alone to try it out;
I walked the shorelines for a while, and you
Held to your course with confidence, no doubt,
But when the night grew chill, I went inside,
Leaving you, Son, alone with the wind and tide."
