Sola Scriptura: "Read and you will understand"!
For those who think God is an incompetent writer!
The Bible can be interpreted correctly by every person.
Without the church to interpret for you. (false doctrine)
Without the illumination of the Holy Spirit. (false doctrine)
Children read and understand the Bible! "from childhood you have known the sacred writings" 2 Timothy 3:15 |
"Read and you will understand" Eph 3:3-5
Typical false statement by those who reject sola Scriptura:
"The idea that the Scriptures are self-interpreting is patently absurd. It assumes a degree of absolute objectivity that would make the most ardent positivist cringe with embarrassment. ... this is exactly what the doctrine of sola Scriptura assumes: a bare text that somehow imposes its meaning on the reader." (THE WAY: What Every Protestant Should Know About the Orthodox Church, Clark Carlton, 1997, p 100)
Three false sources of truth other than the Bible:
#1: Illumination of the Church Organization by the Holy Spirit The church is not illuminated by the Holy Spirit! |
The Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches both claim the Bible cannot be understood by the common man and that only the church can properly interpret scripture. This is false doctrine. |
#2: Illumination of the Individual by the Holy Spirit Personal illumination of the Holy Spirit is a false doctrine |
Protestant, Reformed, Baptist, Pentecostal churches believe the Holy Spirit personally illuminates them to properly understand the Bible. Without the Holy Spirit, the common man cannot understand the Bible. This is false doctrine. |
#3: Illumination of Human Creeds by the Holy Spirit Illumination of creeds by the Holy Spirit is a false doctrine. |
Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant churches all believe creeds are "functionally equal" to the Bible because they believe the Holy Spirit assisted in the writing of the creed. This is false doctrine. |
