Do you believe Genesis chapters 1-3 when it speaks of six, 24 hour days of creation...that Adam & Eve were the first humans...that there really was a Garden of Eden & a forbidden fruit? Do you believe Genesis 6 when it says there was a worldwide flood...that Noah built an ark wherein were all the animals? Do you believe Genesis 11 when it tells of the Tower of Babel as the origin of all earth languages? Do you believe Genesis 19 when it says that Sodom was destroyed with fire because of their sin of deviant sex? Should we take Genesis literally? For the Bible believing Christian the answer is yes! For if we reject Genesis, we might as well throw out the entire Bible including Christ. Let me show you why.
Fact: Genesis is 3rd most quoted from Old Testament book in the New Testament. Evidently the New Testament writers felt what Moses wrote in Genesis was true history for 21 different New Testament books quote from Genesis 260 times. Jesus said in Jn 5:46 "For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote of Me." If you reject what Moses wrote in Genesis you must also reject Jesus for they stand together. Moses later wrote in Exodus 20:11 confirms this, "In six days God created the heavens and earth." Jesus believed in six day creation you see. Should that really surprise you. Did you know that the Bible says that Jesus was the divine creator! "In the beginning was the Word (Jesus), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being" John 1:1-3.; Again, "For by Christ all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible" Colossians 1:16-18. You cannot consistently believe in evolution and believe in Jesus. Jesus said, "unless you believe who I am, you shall die in your sins." John 8:24.
When someone asked Jesus for the reason a man could divorce his wife, Jesus replied, "Have you not read, that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh...What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate" Matthew 19:4-6. In answering the disciples question regarding marriage, Jesus referred them back to the marriage of Adam and Eve when He created them on the 6th day in the Garden of Eden in Genesis 1-3.
Our hope of future resurrection is based upon the fact that there really was a man named Adam. "For since by Adam came death, by Christ also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all shall be made alive" 1 Corinthians 15:21-23.
The certainty of Christ's second coming is based upon the story of a man named Noah who built an ark. Jesus said, "For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah when the flood came and took them all away" Matthew 24:37-39; 2 Peter 3:1-10.
The certainty of a future judgment day is based upon the fact of the destruction of Sodom, Jude 1:6-7 "He has kept (fallen angels) in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day. Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example, in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire."
Can you now see why atheists attack Genesis so much? They know that it contains the foundation of all the Christian believes. Psalms 11:3, "If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?" Believe your Bible. It is God's inspired word!
