Anti-Trinitarians actually appeal to Jews, Muslims and Hindus as proof that trinity is wrong and they are right. The general approach is to quote a Jew or Muslim as saying that trinity doctrine is a barrier to their conversion to Christianity. Anti-Trinitarians then comment that they, being anti-Trinitarian, would have greater success converting Jews, Muslims and Hindus, than trinitarians.

It should be quite obvious how utterly preposterous such a suggestion is, but that is what they actually say:

How the quote appears in "Should you believe in the Trinity", Watchtower, Jw's booklet.

  • "Catholic theologian Hans Küng observes in his book Christianity and the World Religions that the Trinity is one reason why the churches have been unable to make any significant headway with non-Christian peoples. He states: "Even well-informed Muslims simply cannot follow, as the Jews thus far have likewise failed to grasp, the idea of the Trinity. . . . The distinctions made by the doctrine of the Trinity between one God and three hypostases do not satisfy Muslims, who are confused, rather than enlightened, by theological terms derived from Syriac, Greek, and Latin. Muslims find it all a word game. . . . Why should anyone want to add anything to the notion of God's oneness and uniqueness that can only dilute or nullify that oneness and uniqueness?" (Christianity and the World Religions, Hans Kung, Catholic theologian, as quoted in, Should you believe the Trinity?, Watchtower publication)

Our comments:

  1. For Arians (Jw's, Christadelphians) to appeal to Hindus, Jews and Muslims to support their false doctrine is nothing short of incredible! Doing such is as dishonest as it is deceptive! Jw's have not comprehended that if they had the Governing Body themselves sit down and explain their view of God (Father-true God, Son-a god and Holy Spirit-the force or energy of God) Hindus, Jews and Muslims would immediately label Jw's as TRINITARIANS and POLYTHEISTIC! Stated differently, from the perspective of Hindus, Jews and Muslims there is NO REAL DIFFERENCE between the Trinitarian view of God and the Arian (Jw's) view of God. Hindus, Jews and Muslims would label both views as POLYTHEISM! Anti-Trinitarians really blundered when they chose this route! We dare Jw's to explain their view of God to Hindus, Jews and Muslims and ask if they would call it is polytheism!
  2. The truth is that the Lordship of Christ, the fact he is called messiah, is just as large an "obstacle" to Jews and Muslims, as trinity doctrine.
  3. We dare Jw's to explain their view of God to Muslims and ask if they would call it is polytheism or if Anathema's would be pronounced upon them by Muslims leaders! The deception is that Muslims would take just a great offence at the Jw's "incarnation of the pre-existent angel called Jesus" false theology as they would the true Bible teaching of the full deity of Christ! Further Muslims would be just as hindered by the Anti-trinitarian view that Jesus is called the "SON" of God.
  4. The fact is that Jehovah's Witnesses and other Anti-Trinitarian groups are having less success in the Muslim and Jewish sectors of the world in conversion, than Trinitarians.
  5. Jews would be offended at calling Jesus Lord OR God. Jw's do call Jesus Lord and "a God" even "mighty God" which is just as much offense to Jews as Trinitarians calling Jesus "Very God".
  6. The deception is to project the false impression that Jews are repulsed by Trinitarian theology, but would be attracted to Arian (Jehovah's Witness) theology because they are Anti-Trinitarian. In fact the larger hindrance is the Lordship of Christ! The quote is utterly deceptive!
  7. In short, Jehovah's Witnesses believe in an almighty God (Father), a mighty God (Son), a distinct power of God that transcends the universe (Holy Spirit). Jews, Muslims and Hindus would label Jehovah's Witness theology as trinitarian and polytheistic.
  8. The fact remains that the title theos, is clearly applied to Christ proving that Jehovah's Witnesses make a deceptive argument as Lohse states: "Speaking first of the person of Jesus Christ ... In other passages of the New Testament the predicate "God" is without a doubt applied to Christ.' With these affirmations, which for Jewish monotheism were utterly offensive." (A Short History of Christian Doctrine, Bernard Lohse, 1966, p37-39)
