The case of "KFC"
"Living with Mental Illness is not easy, but neither is our life as a Christian. I am ADHD, BiPolar, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Intermittent Explosive Disorder. I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and put on Ritalin. Later, I had a total nervous breakdown in grade school. I've not been able to hold a job for a long time. Someone suggested I apply for disability. I thought no way would I get that, but I went to the local Social Security Office and the lady told me they needed a list of my jobs. Since 1991 I have had 72 short term and menial jobs in 5 years. I began disability in 2009. My symptoms are I get really happy like I am walking on clouds over the smallest things like finding a good deal on something to someone being Baptized. I also get so depressed that I don't want to get out of bed. I have thoughts of suicide, but, I fight them. I've never tried suicide because I know that would mean losing Heaven. Instead, when I get depressed, I eat and gorge myself with an entire bucket of KFC or 6 Big Mac's in one sitting. I also hit myself. Not just a smack, but I beat my face until I get a migraine. I don't know why. I've always done that. I also am very compulsive and impulsive. I have been on Ritalin, Effexor, Risperdal and Depakote. None of these drugs work much to help." (Michele)
Discussion:
Michele narrated all this with a sense of pride whereas we would find admitting to such behaviours as "Intermittent Explosive Disorder" to be humiliating and shameful. The DSM-5 is the atheists moral guide book of behaviours that tries to duplicate the purpose of the Bible The DSM-5 describes "Explosive Personality Disorder" as what the Bible calls, those with outbursts of anger and lacking self-control. The mental health industry coaches the public into removing all responsibility, shame or guilt from the "mentally ill". She believes her behavior problems are like any other medical condition and she takes no moral blame for any of them. While she describes herself as lacking self-control, she is able to muster enough inner-strength when she needs is by not committing suicide. Clearly this is a case that involves huge parental errors of judgement that did not take the corrective action at an early age. People don't hold jobs down for long because they don't want to work. Michele settled into the lifestyle she was comfortable with by finally getting a lifetime pension so she was free to do whatever she wanted. Had Michele been expected to perform up to standard, rather than excusing poor performance and accepting it because a psychiatrist claimed she had a "chemical imbalance" and letting her learn to be selfish and self-discipline, she might have had an alternate destiny. The key to her recovery is identifying the contribution she has made to her own problems and behaviours.
Michele had a long psychiatric history being diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Intermittent Explosive Disorder and ADHD. She did not socialize well with other children and was the target of bullying in grade school, which caused her to cry in the basement alone when she came home after school. Her parents put her on Ritalin because the psychiatrist said she had a chemical imbalance which she continued to take into her teens. Her parents withdrew her from public school and sent her to a private Christian school. She said she was compulsive, impulsive, lacking self-control, engaged in gluttony by eating an entire bucket of KFC at a single sitting. She gives herself black eyes from time to time with her own fist then goes to church. She describes a long list of neuroleptic drugs prescribed by various chemical psychiatrists over the 20 years and doubts any of them did any good. She describes the painful withdrawal symptoms when her medications change dose or type. Discontinuing psychiatric drugs must always be done under the supervision of a doctor. She counts over 75 different jobs she has held in the 5 years before she went on psychiatric welfare. Although she has suicidal thoughts, she says she will never actually do it because she doesn't want to lose her salvation. She has now been on psychiatric welfare for years so she is free to do whatever she wants as if she were retired.
